PROVINCIAL
COMMISSIONER FUMES OVER FREE BAIL TO SUSPECT
By BRIAN KAJENGO
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga has expressed his concern over
the release of Sanele Godfrey Sambo (22) known as “Spykos”, on free bail by
Magistrate Brian Mogale of Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court last week on Friday.
Mogale agreed
with the defence lawyer Mr Khoza and decided to release the accused on free
bail without bail application on new facts.
Sambo
“Spykos” arrested on Friday, 07 June 2013, after police in Mpumalanga received a tip off and
immediately headed to where he was hiding at Prinsloo Street, Pretoria
Central around 18:30.
The
notorious suspect accused of five charges such as; 2 murders, business robbery,
and two (2) possessions of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
His
first court appearance took place at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday
10th of June 2013.
The
Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga,
Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela has expressed his concerns over how Sambo
mysteriously released on a free bail.
“The
police had worked tirelessly in ensuring that the suspect had been arrested
after he (Spykos) ran away from his evil actions. I am very much disappointed
by the release and we (SAPS) will investigate if there was any form of unfair
collusion, either by the police or anyone, and get to the bottom of this
matter. This suspect had terrorised the community and he cannot just be
released like that” said the Provincial Commissioner Ntobela.
