MEC Madala Masuku donated set of sporting kit and
related items to six local sport teams in Ngodwana on Saturday 1 February 2014.
The handover of 75 sets of soccer boots, 10
soccer kits, 1 volleyball kit; 2 netball kits and more than 50 soccer balls was
made possible by local business that
share MEC’s passion for community development and commitment to supporting the
government’s programme of promoting healthy lifestyle amongst the youth,
especially in rural areas.
The donation of the sport items came after
the youth of this community made a plea to the Office of the MEC to assist with
sport development resources so that they may channel their energy into sport
activities to avoid taking part in unlawful activities.
“It is exciting to see the determination of the youth
of this community. They showed their extraordinary love for sport everyday.
“When I first spotted them playing, in these grounds,
the situation was not good. Onecould
not even notice whether they were teams because each was wearing a different
t-shirt,” said MEC Madala Masuku.
Madala Masuku told Bvunzamutupo SADC VOICE that he was
glad not only the sport kits would help them stay away from illegal activities
but will inspire them to learn from efforts of other on how to work with others
to change the lives of the less fortunate amongst them.
“Their attitude is very phenomenal. I am impressed by
their willingness to do better and improve not only their lives but the entire
community as well.” MEC Madala MAsuku said.
All the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the
MEC Masuku and all the sponsors for their kindness.

players declared, “We’re very grateful for the support and love you have showed
us. This means a lot to us - from now on we will know that it is school, and
after school we engage in our sport activities. This will help us grow healthy
as well as to stay away from criminal acts.”
