The parents at Manyeleti Primary in Goutenburg village fear for the lives of their pupils.
The best they did was to invite BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE without the consent of the school Management to come and hid around the school.
The BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news got the shock of itself to see school children relieve themselves in the school yard instead of toilets.
BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news took many photos as possible during break and lunch time when these pupils helped themselves.
There are cracks on the flow and the toilet building. The parents told the BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICEthat the School principal and SGB members are not doing enough.
One parents who identified his name as Absalom Ubisi (36) told BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE that two years back two kids killed by the school toilet.
“Parents are scared that one day their kids might fall in the toilet. This toilet block built in 1976 and they are old enough. I don’t know whether the Department consider rural schools in their budget or not.
“That’s why we called you to see by yourself the situation of this school. This is worse and even educators they have to drive to the shops to relieve themselves. I was shocked one day seeing pupils relieving themselves along the security fence.
“One Day I entered the school toilet just to investigate, I got shocked. Parents will regret after something bad happened to the pupils.” Absalom Ubisi said.
BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news had seen that the boys relieve themselves facing their own direction and girls the other direction.
When BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news tried to talk to educators nobody paid attention to the People’s Paper.
One learner whose name couldn’t use told b that the flow of the toilet vibrates and produces fun sound when you walk in.
She said, “Since January this year learners find hidden places to relieve themselves. The toilets are not usable at all. I am scared even to get closer to the toilets.”
Susan Ntsiyane (47) told BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news that all the parents complain falls on deaf ears.
“These educators are playing with our children lives. Previously, there was a similar challenge of children killed by school toilets in the neighbouring school. I thought the Department could even fix this one, but they decided to leave it as it is.” Susan Ntsiyane said.
Jasper Zwane told the BVUNZA MUTUPO SADC VOICE news that the department is aware of what is obtaining with regards to school infrastructure following an in-depth analysis that conducted throughout the province some of which are already in the priority list.
With regards Manyeleti Primary School the Department had already a scope of work has been determined and as such 22 Enviro-loos (3 Toilets, & 7 Urinals for Boys and 12 Toilets for Girls), based on the school's 542 pupils enrolment will be constructed. In addition the department will construct a Grade R facility at this school with additional toilets.
