 By BRIAN KAJENGO
Government ministers, business leaders, small business owners, entrepreneurs, captains of industry and representatives of community and labour will gather in Ekurhuleni tomorrow morning Monday, 10 February 2014 for the 3rd annual Proudly South African Buy Local Summit & Expo.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Rob Davies, will officially open the "Buy Local" Expo and will deliver the keynote address at the Summit.
Other speakers include the Minister of Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba; the MEC of Gauteng Economic Development, Mxolisi Xayiya; the Chief Procurement Officer of the National Treasury, Kenneth Brown; CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Sello Hatang; and Proudly SA's CEO, Adv. Leslie Sedibe, among others.
The event will start at 7am to 17h00 on Monday 10 February 2014 at Emperor’s Palace, Convention Centre.
The annual Summit, themed “Buy Local – Make it Your Business”, will include discussions around local procurement, job creation and the impact of local purchases on the manufacturing sector.
Local procurement recognised as a key driver for economic growth and job creation by government, business, labour unions and community constituencies.
As part of their commitments to the Local Procurement Accord, signed in October 2011, they’ve committed to sourcing local products and services in designated sectors.
Proudly SA therefore sees the Summit & Expo as an essential tool to facilitate and influence interaction between small businesses/entrepreneurs and procurement decision makers.
The Summit also serves as a platform for Government and business to provide feedback on local procurement and the impact it has had on job creation.
The event also aims to get procurement decision makers, in both the public and private sectors, to understand their role (as well as the impact of their procurement decisions)
in contributing towards South Africa’s economic growth through the uptake of local products and services.
The event will provide an opportunity for state organs and corporate businesses to access the Proudly SA pool of companies. Some 86 local enterprises will showcase their products and services in the Expo area.
Absa is the main sponsor for the Summit & Expo and Kaya FM is the official radio media sponsor and partner.
