Bushbuckridge Residents Association not happy about the demolition
Hundreds of the Bushbuckridge Residents
Association members and supporters held a prayer session and a celebration at
the demolished BRA offices in Acornhoek.
The celebration comes after the leader
of BRA Delta Mokoena and other three members released on bail Monday 11 August
2014 at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s court. Mr Delta Mokoena was released on
a R10 000 bail while the other members on a R2000 bail each.
Our members are facing charges of
kidnapping and assault which we believe are untrue and politically motivated.
“The MEC for safety, security and
liaison Vusi Shongwe and the police have taken the law into their own hands
during the time they were demolishing our office. They went on without waiting
for the courts to process the matter through the justice system before they act
on the matter,” said Moripa.
Moripa says the office acquired from the
steering committee which assigned to look after the property after it was
handed over to Sehlare Tribal Authority, in essence the police should have
served us with notice of occupying public works building illegally and as
occupants they were obliged by law to notify us on such a demolition.
“We call on our members and supporters to
remain calm, resolute and disciplined until the outcome of the trial that expected
to start soon and the outcome of the trial will prove that the allegations
against our members are untrue and politically motivated.” He said.
MEC Vusi Shongwe said during the demolition of BRA offices that if BRA has questions he was ready to me them in court.
He said, "I am demolishing these structures because BRA occupied governemnt''s abandoned structures."
