SA BUSINESS DELEGATION
ARRIVES IN LUBUMBASHI
A delegation of South African businesspeople
and government officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti)
has arrived in Lubumbashi for the second leg of
the Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) that started in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo
(DRC) on
Sunday
The ITI is part of the dti’s Export and Investment
Promotion Strategy that focuses on targeted high growth markets with the objective of creating
investment and export opportunities for South African companies, and of promoting South Africa as a trade and
investment destination.
The delegation comprises of companies in the
agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure, built environment, energy,
mining and capital equipment, electro technical and medical equipment,
solutions and supplies sectors
The delegation kicked off its Lubumbashi
leg of the ITI with a site visit to the Ruashi Mine for the businesspeople in
the mining sector, and another visit to the Karavia Hospital
for companies in the medical supplies sector. The Consul-General of South Africa in Lubumbashi , Mr Mahlatse Mminele, will
host a welcome function for the delegation tonight where presentations on the
DRC business climate and protection of SA investments in the DRC, and investment
opportunities in the DRC will be made.
Tomorrow, the dti will host a Trade and Investment
Seminar which attended by businesspeople from South
Africa and the Katanga
Province of the DRC where Lubumbashi is located.
The official opening of a mini-exhibition will follow the seminar where South
African companies will showcase their products and services. The ITI ends on Friday.
