Mpumalanga police commended for arrest of five suspects linked baby theft

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi has applauded the South African Police Service in the province for the breakthrough of the theft of a new born baby in Rob Ferreira Hospital recently.

Police have reported that five suspects linked to the kidnapping arrested on Friday [05 September 2014] and Saturday [06 September 2014] in Nelspruit CBD and Mattafin respectively.

Two of the five suspects believed to be Mozambican nationals and they have already appeared in court. They will further remain in custody until their next court appearance.

Shongwe says the development will restore community’s faith in the police. He has further called for security companies posted in hospitals and other government sites to be vigilant and extremely cautious at all times, in order to ensure that such incidences anot repeated in the future.

“We are appealing to the police to leave no stone unturned in order to speedily reunite the stolen baby with the family and to also bring these rogue elements to book,” the MEC said.

He has further called on community members who may have information regarding the incident to contact the police without any hesitation.

“Justice must prevail, these suspects if found guilty must be accorded stiffer sentences,” the MEC said.
