DEPARTMENT OF CO-OPERATIVE GOVERNANCE AND TRADITIONAL AFFAIRS (COGTA) IN
MPUMALANGA RECEIVES A CLEAN AUDIT FOR THE 2013/14 FINANCIAL YEAR
The Department of
Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in Mpumalanga has obtained a clean audit for
the 2013/14 financial year. A clean audit is an outcome of an audit process
conducted by the Auditor-General (A-G). The audit process includes the
financial statements.
MEC for COGTA, Ms Refilwe
Mtshweni says the achievement signifies the department’s proper internal
systems and sound financial management. “The department’s strong financial
management and tight internal systems have found expression in the clean audit
outcome. It is a sign of compliance by the department on the proper financial
statements, legal and other regulatory requirements as prescribed by Section
21(1) of the Public Audit Act of South Africa,” MEC Mtshweni said.
MEC Mtshweni says by
obtaining a clean audit, the department has positioned itself as a public
institution with a reputation for proper spending of the public purse. She
added that this will stimulate the department’s desire to support all
municipalities with a view to obtain similar results.
The department’s clean
audit outcome is in line with Operation Clean Audit 2014 and President Jacob
Zuma’s call for 2014 as a year of clean audits for public institutions.
