COGTA CONDUCTS INVESTIGATION AGAINST ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION IN LEKWA MUNICIPALITY
MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga (COGTA), Hon. Refilwe Mtshweni has instituted an investigation of corruption leveled against the Lekwa Local Municipality.
The investigation will be instituted in line with Section 106 (1) (a) of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act which states: by written notice to the municipality, request the municipal council or municipal manager to provide the MEC with information in the notice”
MEC Mtshweni says the focus of the investigation will be on the selling of municipal property in Standerton without the approval of the Council. She says a team of investigators appointed to conduct the investigation.
"It is the responsibility of the department to ensure that allegations of this nature are investigated to determine the validity. This is done in line with government's commitment to clean governance," MEC Mtshweni says.


She added that municipalities as the third sphere of government have to focus on the delivery of services and any threat to this mandate must investigated and be dealt with accordingly.
