Woman Development Business Trust to inspire rural women

Woman Development Business Trust to inspire rural women

By BRIAN KAJENGO

The purpose of this communication is to introduce the Women Development Businesses Trust (WDB) and its local team to institutions, organisations and individuals involved and interested in community development.

WDB is a Public Benefit Organization (PBO) which mobilizes resources to promote its flagship women’s development programmes. It uses an integrated poverty eradication strategy which links poor households in rural areas to a basket of development services in order to build productive and sustainable family and community livelihoods.

“We envision South African women safe at home and in their communities, economically self-reliant and participating fully in the socio-economic transformation of our country to make it an inclusive, democratic and non-sexist society. Our mission is to build productive and sustainable households leading towards productive and self-reliant communities.’’ She said.

The Programme Manager, Ms Nomgqibelo Mdlalose said, “One of WDB’s flagship programmes called the Development Caravan (DC). This is a psycho-social and integrated poverty eradication system for local communities in poor areas to mobilise support and catalyse community self-organisation through targeting families with a basket of services and stakeholder engagement.”

Nomgqibelo Mdlalose says this programme designed and successfully piloted by the South African Women in Dialogue (SAWID) in three provinces of South Africa. WDB is in a process of replicating this model in various municipalities, including your municipality.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 20 March 2014 from 10h00 -12h00at Acornhoek Offices.

The purpose of the meeting is to: Introduce the DC programme, introduce the local WDB team; share information that would assist in advancing the empowerment of rural communities, and learn from each other’s experiences.
