By BRIAN KAJENGO
At least a 24 year old suspect bust for stealing sheep at Lothair near Ermelo in Mpumalanga, on Mondays 17 March2014, after he suspected of transporting stolen live stock.
The Assiduous cops were busy patrolling when they spotted a suspicious looking Toyota Tazz on the road between Lothair and Mpuluzi.
They stopped it and conducted a search. They then discovered that all the passengers’ seats removed and the vehicle loaded with 20 sheep. The driver failed to produce any permit to transport the stock or proof of purchase on request. He nabbed on the spot and taken to the police station for further interrogation.
Investigations proves that the sheep stolen from a certain farm in Lothair. The police also discovered that 16 of the sheep were already dead of suffocation.
“The conduct of the suspect deserves much to be desired and as a result, a further charge of animal cruelty might be leveled against him. It is unbelievable what other people think sometimes.
Police got shock twenty (20) sheep in a Toyota Tazz, where on earth can somebody do such a cruel act.
Some of the sheep suffocated and died before the suspect reached his destination.
“This is quiet strange and it must be condemned in the strongest terms it deserves. I am happy though that he has been arrested and my commendation goes to the members who spotted the suspect”, said the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela.
The suspect will appear before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 18 March 2014.
