RE-COPE
WILL REPORT ALLEGED NEGLEGENCE BY MHALA POLICE
By crime reporter
COPE in Mpumalanga is intending to engage the
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and request it to
investigate alleged negligent handling of a sensitive case by the Mhala police.
Riot Hlatshwayo says Mr. Dick Mathebula of Thulamahashe Township in the Bushbuckridge area and
his family allegedly became the victims of police negligence when they reported
a four year old girl missing last week.
“COPE understands that the family was
turned back by the Mhala police who claimed there was a special policeman
dealing with missing persons and they could only be helped once he was back at
work in a few days time.” Riot Hlatshwayo said.
Despite the family’s information that the
child had disappeared with her uncle police failed to even ask the uncle about
the child’s whereabouts.
The family endured the pain of searching
for the child on their own until they decided to also hunt the uncle down who
later confessed to killing the innocent child and burying her near the Mtlumuvi River.
It was only then that police realized how
serious the matter was and started to pretend to be working.
COPE says the Mhala police have always been
attracting the attention of the media for the wrong reasons over the years.
A Google search for the Mhala police station
has shocking results indeed.
Now
that the Mhala police have attracted the attention of COPE for the wrong
reasons, we are going to help the family open a case with the IPID for justice
to take place.
