RE-VOTE FOR AN ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT TO SORT OUT ROADS

RE-VOTE FOR AN ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT TO SORT OUT ROADS
BY BRIAN KAJENGO
COPE in Mpumalanga challenges Premier David Mabuza to come out clean and explain what he really meant when he said the provincial government spent R12.18-billion to improve road infrastructure network, social and economic structures over the past five years.

“As the provincial government we spent R12.18-billion over the past five years to improve the road infrastructure network, and social and economic (sic) structures. Yes, we connected villages and improved the mobility of people and goods…..” Mabuza said during his State of the Province Address last week.

COPE begs to differ with the premier with regards to “improved roads” because in actual fact the roads in Mpumalanga are no longer usable, to say the least.

COPE bank their argument on typical examples include the road between Acornhoek and Thulamahashe which is full of small dams disguised as potholes, the road in Badplaas where tar was removed after it was established that the road was not properly constructed so much that it experienced potholes as soon as it had been constructed, a number of roads in Nkomazi and the Highveld as well as the road between White River and Hazyview.

Even the road between Ngodini via Bhuga to Loss-my-cherry is full of shocking potholes and let alone the fact that the bridge there is about to collapse any minute.

The premier, who is also the provincial chairman of the ANC, was supposed to be ashamed to open his mouth and tell the opposite of how things are in terms of road infrastructure in the province because indeed that is simply, lip service.
COPE is therefore calling upon the voters to vote for an alternative government so that these roads can be improved in reality and not in theory.

People must borrow a lesson from the late former president Nelson Mandela who said people should do to the ANC what they did to the Apartheid government if the ANC does to them what the Apartheid government did to them.
