PREMIER’S ANNUAL ADDRESS TO THE PROVINCIAL HOUSE OF TRADITIONAL LEADERS AND SIGNING THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON LAND USE MANAGEMENT

The Honourable Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza will deliver his annual address to the Seventh Ordinary Sitting of the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders for 2014/2015.
Premier David Mabuza will outline provincial government’s programmes that aimed at assisting the Traditional Leadership institution and developing traditional communities.
They are high expectations on how Traditional Leaders can work with government to improve services to the community.
The opening attended by amongst others, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), Traditional Leaders, Executive Mayors, and Councillors.
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), House of Traditional Leaders (HTL) South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and South African Police Services (SAPS) will also sign a memorandum of understanding on Land Use Management on 13 March 2014.
This MOU seeks to formalise the cooperation between the parties. The main objectives of the MOU are:
·         To ensure that the Traditional Council, in conjunction with Municipalities identify and planned land use and land management schemes.
·         To facilitate the involvement of the Municipality during the process of land use and land management within the traditional community.
·         To ensure that SAPS enforce law and order in areas of jurisdiction of traditional leaders.
Ensure that SAPS assist with the process of combating unlawful land invasion.
