Minister of water affairs launches national water week but leaves people thirsty

By BRIAN KAJENGO

COPE in Mpumalanga says the launch of the national water week by the minister of water affairs Edna Molewa in Bushbuckridge was too ironic in the sense that she left the communities without water still.

The communities of Sidlamakhosi where she is said to have also made an address were left without water after Molewa and her entourage, which we are told included Premier David Mabuza, launched the water week.

This is also in direct contrast with what the premier had said during his last State of the Province address that 94% of communities in Mpumalanga had access to water.

COPE has said it before that that announcement was just a lip service because in the true sense and reflection of the real scenario people in many communities in Mpumalanga are without water.

The promise to the Bushbuckridge community by Molewa that they would soon have access to water after her visit is strong enough to prove that the premier was actually not telling the truth about the 94%.

As COPE we call upon the minister and the provincial government to act with the speed of lightning and practically address the water problems experienced by our communities.
