We need
ambassadors from your communities

Those were
the words of Yolanda Assy the SANPark, Manager Ambassador Programme’s
addressing learners from Schools in Vhembe District in Limpopo .
Yolanda
Assy told learners to advocate for their biodiversity and heritage. Most of the
learners from disadvantaged learners get advice to pursue tourism, so that they
might be self employed after school.
She also
encourages learners to study environment and nature conservation because of it
has a lot of opportunities.
“You should
know that we need Ambassadors that advocate for our heritage from destroyed by
poachers. Our rhinos are poached everyday, what would you tell your children in
future about the biodiversity.
“We would
like you learners to become our Ambassadors and do awareness campaigns in
schools and communities. People are not taking tourism as a career and go other
jobs. There are lots of opportunities within tourism industry.” Yolanda Assy
said.
Yolanda
told learners that there a bursaries about environment, tourism and nature
conservation.
“There are
many opportunities to be grabbed from Tourism and to those that are interested
can apply for bursaries.
Ntsako
Nengovhela (15) from John
Mutheiwana High
School told Bvunza Mutupo News that Tourism is a very
important subject to her.
“Tourism is
very important Subject I would like to pursue it. When I choose Tourism subject
I had no idea but I just chose it. Now with this opportunity to be in the park,
I can see that I am on the right track. Its either I can become an entrepreneur
in tourism.” Ntsako said.
Another
learner from John Mutheiwana High School ,
Phulufhelo Mulaudzi (17) who was also in the Mopani Rest Camp in Kruger National
Park told the People’s Paper that it’s good to
protect nature.
“I didn't
know that there are Big six trees and Big six birds. I only knew about the big
five of animals in the Kruger
National Park .” Phulufelo
said.
Yolalanda
Assy told Daily Sun that it is necessary to create an increase awareness of
career opportunities to communities’ inhabitants in tourism, hospitality,
conservation science, and nature conservation.
She said,
“There are different fields of study, types of bursaries available for those
interested to utilize. That is why learners that are coming here taken from
each and every working station to interact with our staff so that they get
first hand information.”
