PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER VOWS TO TAKE STURDY ACTION AGAINST CORRUPT MEMBERS
His appearance in court follows the arrest of two suspects, Themba Lekhuleni, 28 years old and Thabo Sebola 23 years old, on 8 January 2015 for illegal possession of a firearm, a 9mm pistol and ammunition in Nelspruit.
"Upon interviewing the said suspects it transpired that the firearm confiscated was sourced from Captain Mnisi, age 55, who is stationed at Nelspruit SAPS. The two further allege that Captain Mnisi had previously provided them with firearms which they used mainly to commit house robberies." Said Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in
"Those that know Captain Mnisi describe him as a seasoned police officer who is known at the station for his hard work and dedication. The news of his arrest and alleged involvement in loaning criminals firearms has come to us as a shock. We will thoroughly investigate these allegations whilst simultaneously initiating a disciplinary action against the Captain for possible corruption and being illegally in possession of a firearm." The owner of the firearm also interviewed. She confirmed that she gave the firearm to Mnisi in December 2015. Statements were obtained from the two arrested males and both indicated that the said Captain Mnisi use to lend them guns to go and commit house and business robberies around White River and they would also share proceeds thereof with the said Captain Mnisi. Suspects already revealed scenes where the crimes were committed with the firearm received from the Captain.
Captain Mnisi arrested and he confirmed having known that the firearm that was in possession of one of the arrested persons was with the one given to him in December 2015.
