What is Global Diaspora Week?
Global Diaspora Week (GDW), October 12-18, 2014, is a week dedicated to Diaspora communities and their contributions to global development. GDW will be a truly global series of events — events organized by Diaspora communities and organizations themselves — and will enable a greater spotlight to be shined on the work that Diaspora groups do and the issues they feel are important. IdEA will work with participants to help drive attendance and attention to their events through IdEA communication channels.
Who can participate in Global Diaspora Week?
Anyone can be a part of Global Diaspora Week and need not organize a large event. GDW will feature a diverse range of events from formal panel discussions and conferences to google hangouts and group meetings at coffee shops, and everything in between. IdEA will post a full listing of events on our website.

Diasporas in the United States will host a discussion on
disability rights across
- CUSO International will organize an event on diaspora volunteering.
- University of
California Los Angeles will organize several panels, as well as a
reception that will address diaspora issues from a global and local
perspective.
- The Office of the State Minister
of Georgia for Diaspora Issues will host an event for engaging
their diasporas around the world.
- African Cultural Institute will host the 3rd
Pan-African/World Health Global Forum in conjunction with the 6th
World Health Summit.
- Teach for México, in partnership
with U.S. Mexico Foundation, will host a discussion on its exchange program

To receive full marketing attention, events must be submitted to IdEA no later than September 15, 2014. Please wait for our confirmation about your event before you begin marketing it as a Global Diaspora Week event.
