Mandela Day Commemoration – Working together for a cleaner Mpumalanga

The Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature Mrs Thandi Shongwe in partnership with the Department of Health will lead the Members of the Legislature in a cleaning campaign at Shongwe Hospital in Nkomazi Local Municipality. This is in honour of the late icon and the 1^st democratically elected President of South Africa Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela for the 67 years he sacrificed for the liberation of South Africa.  

The programme of the day will see the Speaker of the Mpumalanga Legislature, Mrs Shongwe, and Members of the Legislature, local Councillors and officials from the two institutions spending 67 minutes of their time in honour of Madiba. 

this is to take place on Monday 21 July 2014.

The Legislature has also invited traditional leaders from the Nkomazi Municipal area to support the event. The cleaning of the hospital is in line with the call made by the State President Jacob Zuma during the State of the Nation Address to “clean South Africa”.

Provincial celebrities including Donny Ngwenyama, Pretty Mhlongo (both gospel singers) and Shabba Mavuso of the Ligwalagwala FM Afternoon Drive show are expected to be part of the cleaning campaign.
