MINISTER DAVIES TO DELIVER A KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE NATIONAL LOCALISATION INDABA

Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will deliver a keynote address during National Localisation Indaba.  The event hosted by the Durban Automotive Cluster (DAC) and sponsored by Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN).   The event is to take place on Thursday 5 June 2014 as from 8am at Sibaya Casino and Conference Centre, Durban.
                           
          The objectives of the National Localisation Indaba are to:
         
          •Drive localisation across the value chain;
          •Provide improved access to sector and firm-level growth opportunities which will enable growth in employment;
         •Enable global technology affiliations and local innovation;
         •Develop global best practice knowledge of automotive industry trends;                
         •Develop global best practice knowledge of world class manufacturing; and
         •Showcase the South African Automotive Component industry and support   
          organisations to assist localisation.

An objective of the SA government's automotive industrial policy is to have approximately 1, 2 million vehicles produced in SA by 2020, and for this to be associated with a widening and deepening of the base of components manufactured locally. A key driver of success in this regard will be programmes of localisation and increasing levels of manufacturing value add within the automotive supply chain from OEMS through Tier 1 and Tier 2 component manufacturers.
