DA passes condolences to Mbombela bus crash victims

By BRIAN KAJENGO
Jane Sithole MPL, Chief Whip of the Official Opposition to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature on 12 June, made the following member’s statement.

The DA passes its condolences to the families of the three people, of which one was a school child, who killed in a collision between a cash-in-transit van and a bus in Mbombela early yesterday morning.

While reports suggest that this accident could have been avoided had proper vehicle maintenance been performed, the fact is that the nearby Themba Hospital could not accommodate all of 113 injured people, due to a lack of water.

Honourable Speaker, Section 27 (3) of the Constitution states “No one may be refused emergency medical treatment”, and events yesterday suggest that this was indeed the case.

The DA has shown in the past that we will not hesitate to follow every available avenue to ensure that people receive proper health care, and the honourable MEC should take note, that we will not shy away from our duty to the people as we head into the new term.
