AGENCY
By BRIAN KAJENGO
Mbombela –
The MEC for Finance, Economic
Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane has called for unity
between the Board and management of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency
(MTPA) to enable the agency to continue to fulfill its mandate. He said this recently
when addressing the MTPA Board following his appointment as the MEC. This happened
in the wake of recent numerous clashes between the Board and the CEO, Mr. Jacques
Modipane.
“I implore for unity between the Board and the management of
the MTPA in order to move the agency forward. Let us resolve our differences for
the sake of the prosperity of the institution. You have a mammoth task of
growing our tourism sector and managing our bio-diversity,” explained MEC
Kholwane.
At the end of the meeting, the MEC amongst others made the
following determinations and announcements:
1. That
the term of office of the current Board expires at the end of September 2014,
and adverts calling for nominations of new Board members will be put up;
2. That
Mr Fidel Mlombo is confirmed as the duly appointed Chairperson of the MTPA
Board for the remaining term of office (30 September 2014);
3. That for
the sake of unity of the Board, Ms Clara Ndlovu is re-instated as the member of the
Board and Deputy Chairperson with immediate effect, for the remaining term of
office (30 September 2014);
4.
That the Board should go on a strategic retreat
under the guidance of an independent external facilitator to restore unity,
purpose, cohesion and re-focus on its core-mandate;
