By BRIAN KAJENGO
Nelspruit– Four (4) suspects were arrested in the evenings of Friday and
Sunday at Thekwane South, outside Nelspruit in connection with the allegations
of rape and kidnapping of two learners from Hilary High School at Pienaar.
The two learners (victims) aged 20 and 21 years allegedly abducted
on their way from school on Thursday 22 May, kidnapped and raped by the
suspects at gunpoint. They later released in the evening of the same day and
the incident reported to the police.
The success was a result of Detective’s Operation which started on
Friday and ended on Sunday night. Three suspects, aged between 24 and 29 nabbed
while they were still in their nice sleep at their respective hideouts.
They appeared before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday
(yesterday) on two counts of rape and kidnapping, each. They remanded in
custody and their next court appearance scheduled for 02nd July, 2014.
The fourth suspect nabbed on Sunday evening, also at Thekwane and
is due to appear at Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court today.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga , Major-General (Adv) Meshack
Nogwanya has commended the members of the detectives for the speedy job
well-done and arresting the suspects before doing much damage in that area.
“This is the kind of
dedication that we want to see in our organisation. I hope that other members
can take a cue from this team so that we can swiftly deal with any form of
crime in our province. Learners will not be intimidated to attend schooling
freely by people who have no intention of living in peace with the community.
Learners have human rights just like all the citizens of this country. As SAPS
in the province we will ensure that all perpetrators who terrorise learners are
brought to where they belong,”Maj-Gen Nogwanya said.
He also thanked the community of Pienaar and Thekwane for working
with the police throughout the process of investigating this case.
