SUSPECT APPEARED FOR ALLEGATIONS OF BURNING HIS CHILD TO DEATH

Acornhoek - A 36-year-old man, Jabulani Masinga has appeared before the Mhala Magistrate’s Court on Tuesady 21 October 2014, on allegations of burning his one-year-old child to death and severely injured the mother.
The suspect’s appearance follows diligent work by the police in searching for Masinga after he vanished immediately after he committed the atrocious act.
Information at police disposal revealed that Masinga allegedly had a heated argument with a 35-year-old woman, who was the mother of his child. He then left the house but only to return later with a 5 litre container filled with petrol. It’s alleged that Masinga poured the woman with the petrol while she was carrying the baby at her back and set both of them alight.
The woman and the baby rushed to the hospital for serious burnt wounds but unfortunately, the child passed away shortly on arrival and the mother is still fighting for her life in the hospital.
Police followed all the possible leads to secure the arrest of Masinga until the Provincial Tracing Team managed to track him down in his hideout at Nkowankowa Village near Tzaneen in Limpopo. The suspect is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
The rogue has remanded in custody and the case postponed to 28 October 2014, pending a formal bail application.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Meshack Nogwanya sincerely extended his appreciation to the faithful citizens who after having spotted Masinga tipped the police.
