DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, ROADS AND TRANSPORT PUTS BRAKES ON OVERLOADING OF TRUCKS

Overloading of truck will soon be a thing of the past along the National route N17 in Bethal which resulted to the deterioration of roads, as the weigh bridge is to open on the 28th of October 2014 at Bethal Weigh Bridge. MEC for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport in Mpumalanga, Dumisile Nhlengethwa would  officiates the ceremony with the Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District, Cllr Mishack Nhlabathi and the Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki, Cllr Linda Masina in which bicycles for the learners will also be donated and handed to various schools. The event will start at 10h00 in the morning.


The Department has spent more than R49 million towards the project, which created at least two hundred and fifteen (215) work opportunities for the locals. The event forms part of the October Transport Month programme where the department showcases transport infrastructure by opening roads, bridges, weighbridges, boarding scholar transport and donating bicycles to learners. The National Department of Transport officially declared it October Transport Month in 2005. The Department will conclude the Transport Month by hosting the Provincial Kamoso Awards at Secunda (Lillian Ngoyi Multipurpose Centre) on the 31st of October 2014.
