Hazyview - The Station Commander of Hazyview, Lieutenant Colonel Mfundisi Makamu known as MR. Cruel is a yardstick to measure SAPS true leadership. He leads by example after he caught a 29-year-old man in possession of unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen property.
Lt Col Makamu was on his way to work when he spotted two suspicious looking men around Hazyview at approximately 07:00, carrying a bag.
Makamu quickly organised one of his subordinates to assist in searching those men.
The two suspected men put on their heels but the top cop acught one and the other one vanished in the thick bushes of Hazyview.
“We searched the suspect and we found him in possession of two 9mm pistols, a CD/DVD player with speakers, a laptop, and toiletries were found and the suspect was arrested on the spot. It’s unfortunate that the other suspect escaped.” Lt Colonel Mfundisi Patrick Makamu said.
Last week Saturday Makamu has given blessings by the congregation from interdenominational group which prayed against crime within Hazyview.
When addressing the congregation on Saturday he said to the congregation that Hazyview become a no go area for criminals.
“I appreciate the prayer you did today as churches; I believe we are going far with our mission to combat crime,” said Makamu.
A manhunt for the other suspect has been launched.
Makamu edged that the suspect who escaped arrest can run but he cannot hide from cops.
It has confirmed by the provincial police that after further investigation it appeared that one of the firearms was reported stolen at Brakpan Police Station in Gauteng this year January.
A manhunt for the other suspect has been launched.
The suspect is to appear at Hazyview Court on Monday 23 March 2015.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Adv) Meshack Nogwanya commended the senior cop and dared members to learn from the best. “Surely being a cop has a lot to do with one’s own hunch. It goes without saying that our men and women in blue can achieve a lot of success by leaving no stone unturned through searching every suspicious person they came across,” said Maj Gen Nogwanya.
