HEADS OF DEMOCRATIC STATES SHOULD NOT ATTEND KWAMAGOGO CELEBRATION

The Swaziland Solidarity Network [SSN] has always taken a dim view of the appalling irony of the Kwa Magogo House Number 43 Trelawney Park fabrication.

The people behind this facade claim to be celebrating the legacy that the house played in the liberation of South Africa yet they have not lifted a hand to aid the struggle for liberation on the very soil that the house is located. From its very inception, this entity has given prominence to Stalwarts of the oppressive and despotic Royal regime with the complete absence of Swaziland’s pro-democracy figures.

This leads anyone to question exactly what these people are celebrating, it certainly cannot be the struggle for democracy. This is the reason why we urge all invitees to this year’s event to boycott it.

This appeal applies mainly to the two heads of states, Mozambique presidents Filipe Nyusi and Jacob Zuma but also to all others who see through this ironic facade. These head of states of countries with functional democracies should not lower the statue of their offices by attending an event that celebrates a struggle for democracy which ended 21 years ago in a territory whose rulers are doing everything to stifle basic human rights and the struggle for democracy. We therefore expect King Mswati and his henchmen to be the only ones attending that event alongside the Masilela family.
