Mozambican armed robber who terrorised communities of Mpumalanga

The DA commend authorities for apprehending a Mozambican armed robber who terrorised communities of Mpumalanga

The DA in Mpumalanga is overjoyed to have learnt of the arrest and subsequent sentencing of Mr Lorenzo Bedome Gideon Mazunze, a Mozambique national who terrorised the people of Malalane and Barberton.

Mr Mazunze sentenced to 104 years of imprisonment in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday, 28 October 2014, after found guilty of 23 counts of armed robbery.

Mr Mazunze has since 2007 reined terror in the Malalane and Barberton areas, causing the farming communities and guest house owners many sleepless nights. The DA hopes that this sentencing will serve as a deterrent factor against anyone who thinks about terrorising the communities of Mpumalanga.

As stated by magistrate Andre Geldenhuys, these two communities of Malalane and Barberton, were exceptionally fortunate in that Mr Mazunze was a bad shot when it came to a fire-arm, and had this not been the case, many of these attacks could have led to fatalities.

The DA wishes to commend the South African Police Services (SAPS) for their diligent work in apprehending Mr Mazunze and by doing so, has ensured that the already alarming percentage rate of murders and attempted murders in this province, did not increase by a further 23 possible attempted murders.
