Its
alleged that the Branch Commander of the Detectives in White
River, Lieutenant Thokozani Zungu (31) appeared before the
Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday 12 May 2014 charges of reckless and or
negligent driving, failing to stop after an accident and drunken driving.
The
head of detective allegedly caused a collision of three cars on his way on the R40 Road from White River to Nelspruit on Friday 9 May 2014 at
approximately 16:55.
At first instance he alleged to have collided
with a Ford Bantam at the robot at Rocky’s Drift. He apparently failed to stop
and on the off ramp to Riverside Mall, he collided with another Ford Bantam and
a Toyota Fortuner.
It
is further alleged that other motorists blockaded his vehicle, removed the keys
from the ignition and the police were summoned to the scene and noticed that
Zungu, who was driving a state owned vehicle appeared to be under the influence
of alcohol. He arrested and taken to hospital for blood samples.
The
matter postponed to 30 July 2014
