A SUSPECT AND A CLEANER LEFT DEAD AFTER TAVERN ROBBERY, SUSPECT SOUGHT

Kriel – Monday 5 May 2014,
the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela requests the
community to help the police in finding a suspect who robbed a tavern in
Thubelihle near Kriel.
The
aforesaid horrific incident occurred last night when three armed men whose
faces covered with balaclavas accosted a 59-year-old tavern owner and his
51-year-old wife. The men stormed the tavern few minutes before closing time
and demanded cash.
While
still on their demands, they started to fire shots at random and in the process
a patron, the tavern owner, his wife, one of the suspects were shot and
injured. Another man believed to be in his early thirties employed as a cleaner
in the tavern fatally shot.
The
suspects dragged the severely injured wife of the tavern owner and forced her
to open the safes. They then took an undisclosed amount of cash and on their
way out; they shot dead their accomplice who injured during the random shooting
earlier.
The
suspects fled the scene in two cars and the injured victims taken to hospital.
The
police in Kriel worked tirelessly and managed to arrest a 31-year-old suspect
who is now facing charges of business robbery, two counts of murder and three
counts of attempted murder.
