MPUMALANGA NEWLY ELECTED POLITICAL MEMBERS TO BE SWORN IN SOON

Subsequent to the dissolution of the 4th Mpumalanga
Provincial Legislature on the 6th of May 2014 and the General
Elections on the 7th of May 2014, the Mpumalanga Provincial
Legislature will hold its first sitting in order to swear in elected members of
the Fifth Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.
The completion of the 2014 General Elections ushers in the
establishment of the 5th Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature as per
the outcome of the election.
According to the election results as announced by the Independent
Electoral Commission of South Africa, four political parties have been
accordingly allocated seats at the Legislature. These parties includes the
African National Congress - ANC (24 seats), Democratic Alliance - DA (3 seats),
Economic Freedom Fighters - EFF (2 seats) and the Bushbuckridge Residents
Association - BRA (1 seat).
The Honourable Chief Justice of South Africa Mogoeng Mogoeng has, in
terms of section 110 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, designated
the Honourable Deputy Judge President, AP Ledwaba to preside over the swearing
in of the elected Members of the 5th Legislature.
The Honourable Deputy Judge President, Ledwaba, has determined the date
and place for the 1st Sitting of the 5th Mpumalanga
Provincial Legislature as FROM 21 May 2014.
During this sitting, the elected Members will be sworn in. This will be
followed by the election of the Premier of the Mpumalanga Province as well as
the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the 5th
Legislature.
