Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe commend the security cluster for ensuring safe elections in all voting stations in the province.

He says that only few and not serious incidences were reported in the province’s voting stations. Police officials and other security role players were deployed in different poll stations where they ensured safety and smooth running of the elections.

“In areas where incidences of violence were reported, police officials managed to restore calm and secured the areas,” says Shongwe.

He also commends the tolerance displayed by residents of all three regions of the province during the elections.

“We have seen how mischievous people take advantage of big events such as elections to commit crime or other illicit activities,” says the MEC.

Shongwe says that the province‘s success with regard to recent elections indicates that Mpumalanga is ready to hold events of any magnitude in the future.

“We should also commend our communities for having behaved well before and during the elections because their co-operation with IEC officials made it possible for the province to have relatively free elections,” the MEC says.
