PUBLIC WORKS, ROADS AND TRANSPORT BUST 176 PUBLIC TRANSPORT OPERATORS FOR
BREAKING THE LAW.

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and
Transport is out in full force during this Easter Weekend to ensure that all
public transport operators abide by the rules of the road. Since the start of
the Easter weekend between the 17th of April 2014 and the 18th
of April 2014, a total of 176 public transport vehicles that includes amongst
others, taxis, meter taxis and buses have been impounded for operating for
rewards without operating licenses which is in contravention of the Transport
Act.
The impounded vehicles have been issued with notices
and they can only be released once a fine of between R2000 and R2500, depending
on the offence committed, has been paid.
