ACCUSED
SENTENCED FOR DOUBLE MURDER

High Court has sentenced a 24-year-old accused, Victor Matswitswi for killing
his grandmother, Sarah Mabaso, who was 59-years-old at the time, and his
3-year-old cousin.
The
High Court heard that on 15 July 2009, at approximately 06:00, Matswitswi went
to his grandmother’s place at Windhoek Farm in Dullstroom and demanded money
buy dagga. When the elderly woman told him that she had no money, he then
hacked her to death with an axe and proceeded to hang his cousin on a tree with
a wire. Matswitswi was traced and apprehended on 26 July 2009, at Nebo in Limpopo and had since been denied bail.
He
was found guilty of double murder on 20 September 2013, and was sentenced
to 20 years imprisonment for each murder. His sentences will run concurrently.
The
management of the police in Mpumalanga,
led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela, welcome
