CASH IN TRANSIT LEFT
TWO DEAD, ONE ARRESTED AND ANOTHER INJURED
By Brian Kajengo
Nelspruit – on Tuesday 8
April 2014, a group of armed thugs entered one of the big chain stores at
Klipfontein in Witbank and pretended to be customers. When a guard from G4S
Security collected money and exited the shop, the armed men accosted and
fatally shot him on the side of his upper body.
The
suspects then took the box containing money which exploded while they were
trying fleeing the scene. The sector police vehicle patrolling in the vicinity
of the incident heard the blazing sound of a gun and responded. At that moment,
other role players from the security fraternity and sector forum members also
responded.
When
the suspects saw that they were cornered, they fired shots at the police and a
shootout ensued. One of the suspects fatally shot and another one arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the group consisted of more than 10
suspects and the remaining fled the scene in two vehicles, a Corsa sedan and a
Quantum kombi mounted with Eskom tags.
On
further investigation police found out that a car guard hit by a stray bullet
on the leg and had to be hospitalised.
The
police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and therefore request
the community to assist with information that will lead to their arrest.
