BUSINESSPEOPLE URGED TO INVEST IN THE ZAMBIAN MANUFACTURING SECTOR
Zambia’s manufacturing
sector has great potential and the abundant natural resources present
investment opportunities to South African firms. This was said by the Director of Investments at the Zambia Development
Agency (ZDA), Ms Agness Chaila. Chaila was speaking during the trade and
investment seminar that was hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the
dti) in Zambia yesterday as part of the Outward Selling Mission (OSM) to
Zambia.
Chaila added that the
Zambian manufacturing sector presented the most viable opportunities for South
African businesspeople because of the country’s abundant natural resources and
required labour force.
According to Chaila, South
African firms can access investment opportunities in this sector which accounts
for about 11% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Zambia is also in need of
infrastructure development and with their extensive experience, South African businesspeople
can partner with local firms to access investment opportunities that this
sector has to offer. The eighty-thousand kilometre roads projects is one
example of an investment opportunity for the South African firms,” said Chaila.
She reiterated that Zambia
was open for business.
“We are inviting
businesspeople who will partner and take advantage of our priority sectors
especially the agricultural, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, tourism and
the mining sectors,” added Chaila.
The mission continues today
with business-to-business meetings and site visits to the Lusaka South Economic
Zone and Roma Industrial Parktomorrow.
