SHONGWE TO TAKE A BUS TO WORK
October is a National
Transport Month, and government uses this month to raise awareness on the
important role of transport in the economy and to encourage participation from
civil society and business, including the provision of a safe and more
affordable, accessible and reliable transport system in the country.
Over and above, road
safety is emphasized through various programmes and initiatives by government
hence there is a need to intensify initiatives and campaigns aimed at
educating and involving communities in the fight against road crashes.
This year,
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe together
with DJ Shabba of Ligwalagwala FM and other media practitioners will embark on
an Overall Friday activity under the Transport Month theme “Together Moving
South Africa Forward”, where commuters and drivers of public transport will be
educated about road safety.
The
participation of the Media, Ligwalagwala FM Radio Station and DJ Shabba will
assist government to mobilize communities to participate in programmes aimed at
improving road safety.
The MEC accompanied
by the media will board a Buscor bus from Kabokweni to interact with the
commuters on issues relating to road safety and crime prevention measures.
The activity will take place as follows:

houses will be invited and officials from the department will be part of the
activity.
