MEC Shongwe strongly condemns the killing of a law enforcement official.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has condemned the heartless murder of one his most dedicated and hard working senior traffic officers in the department, Johannes Mahlangu on Saturday around 14h00.

Mahlangu was visiting his family at Vlaklagte no. 2 and while he was driving out of his family’s house, a speeding sedan stopped near the gate and one of occupants fired several shots at Mahlangu. He was rushed to a nearby clinic where he died. A murder docket was opened at Kwaggafontein Police Station and the motive is not yet known.

Mahlangu was a Cost Centre Head of the department’s Middelburg traffic office. MEC Shongwe has condemned the murder saying police should ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended as a matter of urgency. He said the Criminal Justice should also ensure that those responsible receive maximum permissible sentences.

Shongwe has also called on community members who have information to come forward inorder to assist the police.

Meanwhile, Mr. William Sokhulu Skhosana who was a presenter at Ikwekwezi FM died after the Isizu bakkie he was driving overturned on Friday at about 21h00 near Kwamhlanga on the Sheldon/ Kwamhlanga road (R515). The passenger he was travelling with sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
