MEC Shongwe’s child dies in a car accident

MEC Shongwe’s child dies in a car accident

Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe’s child was killed after a car knocked her down in Ermelo yesterday.

The eight-year-old girl, Sethu Thandiswa Shongwe was trying to cross the Pet Street near her home at approximately 16:30 on 15 April 2015 when a car hit her. She was certified dead on the scene and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

As road safety ambassador in the province, MEC Shongwe is very disturbed about the incident. He has been preaching the road safety gospel since he joined the department in 2011, not imagining that such disaster would directly affect him.

On behalf of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, HOD William Mthombothi sends condolences to the Shongwe family on the loss of the child.

Details about the funeral service will be made available in due course.
