THE NRCS TO DESTRUCT NON-COMPLIANT PRODUCTS

Members of the media invited to witness the destruction of non-compliant products by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS). The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will deliver an address at the  destruction of goods that were confiscated from suppliers and certified to be sub-standard and harmful for use in the South African market as stipulated in the NRCS Act.

The NRCS is mandated by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) to protect the safety and health of consumers by enforcing compliance to compulsory specifications  and technical regulations in the automotive, electro-technical, food and  associated industries, chemical, mechanical and mechanical materials as well as the administration of both the Legal Metrology and National Building Regulations and Standards acts.

Products to be destroyed ranges from motor vehicle brake pads, incandescent lights, safety helmets, air fresheners, nail polish, television games, hot plates, massagers and vacuum cleaners.
