SA BUSINESS DELEGATION ARRIVES IN THAILAND  

The South African business delegation has arrived in Thailand for the Outward Selling and Investment Mission (OSIM) supported by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). The OSIM will take place in Bangkok, Thailand from 28 – 30 July 2014.

The objective of the OSIM is to create market access for South African value-added products, and services to enter Asian markets, and profile South Africa as an investment destination of choice. The choice of these two countries informed by the dti’s diversification strategy which aims to leverage market opportunities and ensure that South Africa’s exports to dynamic high growth markets facilitated.

The business delegation will participate in various business-to-business meetings, site visits and trade and investment seminars.

The Director of Golden Touch Manufacturing Jewellers, Mr Mbulelo Singapi from Uitenhage, in Port Elizabeth, who is part of the delegation, said his company was looking forward to meeting key decision makers and exchanging business ideas with the Thai business people.

 “The key is always to prepare before you get to these meetings and seminars so that you can always return with something tangible for your business to move forward,” added Singapi.

Singapi said despite being a small manufacturing company, they do have the capacity to produce any amount of order should they manage to sign deals in Thailand.

Sectors targeted for the Outward Selling and Investment Mission (OSIM) are agro-processing, jewelry and automotive components sectors.

Total trade between Thailand and South Africa was R31.1 billion in 2013; with a trade balance of R22 billion in favour of Thailand. South African exports to Thailand totalled 4.6 billion, while imports totalled R26.5 billion in the same year. South Africa mainly source special classification products such as vehicle parts which constitute 45% of imports.

Mbombela- In celebration of the world’s greatest icon and international statesman, Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, MEC Kholwane will hand over two newly built and furnished houses to two destitute families while about 801 learners from Mhwayi Primary School will have eleven (11) of their classrooms painted.

The MEC for the department of Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane, MPL, will join departmental official in painting 11 classrooms at Hwayi Primary School and later hand over two houses to each of the two families.

Mhwayi Primary was built by the community in 1968 and is composed of 17 classroom and only 11 are used for learning and teaching and need to be renovated. this will take place on Monday 28 July 2014 at Mhwayi Primary School in Mbombela.

The Mpumalanga Province once again robbed of its people - the family bread-winners, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers these were the words of the Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature Mrs Thandi Shongwe as the province shaken by another deadly accident this morning near White River.

News report indicates that a taxi carrying people along plaston road failed to stop at the intersection with the R40 which caused the minibus taxi to overturn killing seven people. The death toll has since increased to nine following the passing on of two people who rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

“As the Mpumalanga Legislature we send our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families following another devastating accident in our province.” Mrs Thandi Shongwe

Speaker Shongwe called upon the people of the province to pray for the province and for the end to the carnage on our roads.

She said, “the loss of one life is enough to cause devastation but when so many lives are lost it becomes difficult for the entire people of the province.”

“Our people are not supposed to die when going to work in the morning or when returning home in the afternoon but these things happens even though government is doing much to ensure safety on our roads.

Speaker asked road users to be patient and to always check safety of their vehicles before joining the road in order to avoid such disastrous carnages.

The DA passes its condolences to the families of the nine people who passed away in the accident. It reported that the driver of the taxi lost control on the intersection of the R40 and Plaston Road. The DA will continue to use every available avenue to ensure we hold the Executive to account. While we should not wait for people to die before action can taken, the DA welcomes this move by the Department of Safety, Security and Community Liaison. This traffic light and speed humps should have been installed long time ago before the loss of life happened. The carnage on our roads needs to stop now!

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe sends his heartfelt condolences to the families of nine people who died after a minibus overturned on R40 road near White River in Rocky’s Drift.

According to reports, the minibus which was coming from the direction of Kabokweni failed to stop at the intersection.

 With speed, it passed both lanes from White River and lanes from Nelspruit and hit a pavement. It then overturned and ejected the passengers including the driver out of the minibus.

Seven people died on spot while two who sustained serious injuries died in hospital. Seven occupants with slight injuries are treated in Rob Ferreira and Medi Clinic Hospitals.

Yesterday on the same spot, twelve people were seriously injured after four vehicles collided. According to reports, a minibus hit on the back of another minibus transporting tourists at the intersection connecting the Plaston Road and the R40. The two minibuses rolled and collided with a truck and a sedan on the R40.

MEC Shongwe says that this is a sign that motorists do not adhere to the rules of the road and the law must take its course to ensure that the drivers who caused these accidents if found guilty are prosecuted.

“Minibus drivers must always take a responsibility of the lives of passengers they are transporting. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that his passengers reach their destination safe.

“Taxi owners must ensure that their drivers are properly trained and fit to be on the road. We can’t lose so many lives due to recklessness of drivers,” said Shongwe.

Meanwhile, the MEC wishes a speedy recovery to those in hospitals.

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Ms Dumisile Nhlengethwa will table the 2014/15 Policy and Budget Speech on Friday 25^th July 2014 at the Mpumalanga Legislature in Nelspruit starting at 10h00.

The presentation of the Policy and Budget Speech is an opportunity for the MEC to outline the Departmental plans not only in the current financial year, but importantly in the Medium Term Expenditure Strategic Framework (MTESF) as the fifth term of the democratic administration commences.

The Department is the heartbeat of Government Infrastructure roll-out, a key program that Government has relied upon to stimulate economic activity thus creating much needed Job opportunities.

The National Department of Public Works has set a target of creating six millions job opportunities in the next five years through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

In this regard, MEC Dumisile Nhlengethwa will spell out how Mpumalanga province will contribute to this national target of job creation.

The Department also contribute in the achievement of rural development strategy through construction upgrading of rural roads networks. This network is important as it not only increase rural mobility but importantly acts a rural economic catalyst, true to assertion that a road is an economic enabler. The other related mandate is the building of new roads, rehabilitation and maintenance of the whole provincial road network.

The Department increasingly called upon to support many municipalities in the province who are in distress through grading of access roads to social amenities such as grave yards, schools and clinics.

These and others are the plans that MEC Nhlengethwa will outline in detail as she presents her maiden Policy and Budget Speech for 2014/15 financial year

SAMANCOR TO BULID CLINIC FOR THE ACKERVILLE COMMUNITY

The Mpumalanga Department of Health led by MEC for Health, Mr Gillion Mashego and the General Manager of SAMANCOR Mr Elli Wheal will turn the soil for the construction of the new clinic in Ackerville-Witbank.

The total cost of the project is R5, 029,612.00; this is part of SAMANCOR’s corporate social responsibility to plough back to communities for good causes.  This project will create employment for the people of eMalahleni during the construction phase; it estimated the project will be finished by the end of December 2014.

This would happen at 08:30 on Friday 24 July 2014 at Ackerville, Witbank (Lucy Mashiane Creche)
