TWO ARRESTED
MPUMALANGA COPS OUT ON BAIL.
Nelspruit–Pienaar. Today, the two Mpumalanga Police
Officials who were arrested yesterday after allegedly setting the suspect
loose, had appeared before the Kanyamazane Magistrate's Court and were released
on free bail. Their case had been postponed to July 10, 2015.
Yesterday the cell manager and the matron, Warrant Officer Mfembi Petrus
Mashaba (53) and Sergeant Magigwane Amos Mathebula (55) were in charge of the
cells when the suspect Skhumbuzo Segage (21)escapes from the advanced security
systems of the state of the art Police Station in the Province.
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General (Advocate)
Mark Dumisa Magadlela had vowed and set an example that police officials who
are ill disciplined and have an unpalatable and disgraceful behaviour are not
welcomed in the service. This happened after he arrested a Warrant Officer and
a Sergeant, both stationed at Pienaar Police Station for a charge of aiding a
prisoner to escape.
It is alleged that yesterday morning the law abiding citizens of Pienaar
arrested a Segage for armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen property
and handed him over to the police. Segage was allegedly involved in a string of
robberies where he robbed people their cell phones. Subsequent to his arrest,
two of the cell phones where identified by the complainants. The cell phones
were kept as an exhibit for court purposes. Around 14:00, it was discovered
that Segage had escaped from lawful custody.
Upon hearing the disturbing news, the Provincial Commissioner went to
the station to investigate the reality and the possibility of the matter since
Pienaar is one of the best stations, with state of the art facilities in
Mpumalanga. He then immediately arrested the two officials and detained them in
the police cells for court processes
