SUSPECTS SOUGHT FOR ARMED ROBBERY AND ATTEMPTED MURDER

SIYABUSWA - Police are looking for information that could lead to the arrest of a 32-year-old man, Bheki Bongane Kunene, together with his accomplice who opened fire at the police yesterday in Siyabuswa. Kunene is also wanted for a case of armed robbery which was committed in White River during October 2014.

Yesterday, 01 June 2015, police were following information regarding the whereabout of Kunene, in connection with the White River armed robbery case. The investigation led the police to a certain house at Siyabuswa. Upon arrival at the house, they spotted a man who was armed with a firearm coming from the back of the house,  running to a blue VW Polo that was parked in the yard.  The driver who was waiting in the car, immediately started the vehicle and sped off. He also tried to run over the police with the vehicle but they managed to take cover.

The suspects also fired shots at the police while they drove away but no one was injured. Police gave chase and found the vehicle abadoned along side the road and the suspects ran into the nearby bushes. Inside the vehicle, police discovered a 7.65 pistol with five rounds of ammunition, dagga, a number plate with the following number Siyazi2 GP and all items were seized including the getaway vehicle of the suspects.

Police urge any person with information that could lead to the arrest  of the suspects to contact Lieutenant Andrew Makinta at 082 065 1366. A warrant of arrest for Kunene for the robbery case has been issued.
