Three suspects facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
Three suspects, Mzwakhe Nunu Matsane (20), Thembelani Mawala Shaba (23) and Sifiso Gege Mgiba (31), appeared at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of dangerous weapons on Friday 27 December 2013.
Police worked on tip off after tipped that there was a white Toyota Tazz suspected of carrying weapons.
Police spotted the suspected vehicle at Sandriver Trust near Hazyview, police searched the vehicle together with the occupants.
During a intensive search police recovered a 303 rifle stashed in the engine compartment, ammunition, axe, hack-saw, two butcher knives and a pair of binoculars in the boot.
The villains nabbed on the spot and the vehicle was impounded. The rifle sent for ballistic testing to find out whether was it not involved in the commission of other crimes.
The suspects remanded in custody until 30 December 2013, pending a formal bail application.
